Why an association?

 Judge David D. Bopp

The Central States Roller Canary Breeders Association was started in the late 1930’s.  Its By-Laws were revised in 1947, 1985, 1986, and January 1995.  There may have been more recent changes noted in the yearly minutes and it may be time to reprint again.  The purpose of the association was:  1. To advance the Roller Canary Fancy and to interest the General Public in the really high quality Roller Canaries.  2. To make available to all Roller Fanciers an Association governed and controlled by the breeders, for the mutual benefit of the breeders.  3. To promote and assist in the adoption of a uniform standard of scoring in the whole of North America.  4. To promote a high standard of ethics among canary breeders, and make such a standard compulsory for the members of the Association.

Articles #3 thru #10 addressed and provided for Membership, Club Affiliation, Officers, Duties of Officers, Executive Committee, Annual Meeting, Bands and Supplies, and Sanctioned Shows.

A Central States Classic Show was awarded to different clubs each year-  The Grand Finale…This show started in the 1940-41 season and except for the war and an avian influenza it was held every year.  A beautiful traveling trophy was awarded to the Grand Champion Team.  The Trophy was to be retired if any breeder won it three times.  It was first retired by Rudolf Rasching, reinstated and again retired by my father L. K. Bopp who won in 1956, 1972, 1973 and 1974.  Classic's have been held in Peoria, Illinois., Des Moines, Iowa, Minneapolis, Minnesota, St. Louis, Mo., Milwaukee, WI., Chicago, IL., Cincinnati, OH., Spokane, Washington, , Youngstown, OH. and Baltimore, Maryland.

Articles #11 thru #16 addressed and provided for Classification of Breeders, Judges, Shows and Show Dates, Financial Obligations, and a method for changing the By-Laws.

The Central States Roller Breeders Association has through the years developed four Appendix's toward the improvement of our Fancy. 1.  Describes Show Format, Prizes for Breeders Division, Reporting of Scores and Show Reports.  2.  Classification of Breeders.  3.  Rules and Regulations of Central States Song Contests.  I believe a new revision will be forthcoming after the next annual meeting in Jacksonville, Florida.  You may want to request a copy.  Our shows benefit from having specific association rules, a uniform standard of scoring by qualified Judges ensuring fair competition for all.  May all your birds sing and the best birds win.  We are already winners because the birds give us so much.

Respectfully,
Judge David D. Bopp
